Mid-Centuria now on Tumblr

As some of you may have noticed, my posting has gotten quite sporadic over the last few months partially due to my attempt to focus more time on my own art and design, but more so because writing a post has somehow mutated into a stressful task. Why? I am not exactly sure, but I think it is a combination of things. (Warning, if you aren't interested in reading my psychological babble, then I suggest you jump to the next paragraph now). First and foremost I have struggled with writing since high school, which can make posting a bit of a chore, especially when my perfectionism kicks in and I find myself rewriting a single sentence 10-times over. I also feel that since Mid-Centuria's readership has grown (Thank you everyone for your interest and support!), I have begun to suffer from what can be best described as performance anxiety, fearing that my next post might not be interesting enough, poorly written or that I may have my facts all wrong. Lastly, and I am sure other bloggers can relate to this, after blogging for some time, a sense of obligation to your readers begins to creep in and one feels pressure to post; not doing so leads to guilt. Instead of spurring me to action, this "bloggers guilt" has done the opposite and led me to avoid the blog altogether.  OK, now I feel better, to those who took the time to read this thanks for hearing me out, I just felt like clearing the air a bit and giving you an explanation.

Since posting to my blog has been a bit of a struggle, I thought I would start a Mid-Centuria tumblr where I will post more regularly- check it out HERE. I will continue to post on Mid-Centuria.com too, so be sure to check back!  Thanks everyone for your readership and support!

Your blog has been great. It looks to me like your instinct about what to post has been very good too. I think all artists like to look at inspiring images, but after awhile we want to start creating our own. It's important to follow that call. If I can give advice I would say to have trust and faith in yourself and follow your instincts. I'm trying to do the same.

I fully understand your struggles with writing. Somehow after half a century on this planet, I feel no angst in my writing. But for most of those years it was pulling teeth.
Good luck to you on that.

I look forward to any posting here or on tumblr, and I consider it a gift.
Thanks,
Doug

I like reading blogs and occaisionally adding a comment. The problem with blogs however is that they lack the full interactivity that a forum has. I don't get why forums have died and why something like twitter has become huge. As far as mid-century forums go, there is like one in the whole world worth reading and participating in. How many mid-century or art and design blogs/tumblr/twitter/dealer/etsy things are there - there are frickn millions. Me not us, if that's where we've gone, I don't get it. I run a forum that only has 80 odd sign ups and days pass before anyone posts anything. I feel the obligation to keep posting myself as a result, but I don't want it to be all about me. I want to learn from others and see what others have to offer, and share in discussion, but apparently most just sit back and troll. Maybe that's what you feel about this blog; the anxiety is not about what you post but more about having interaction, and if that doesn't happen, then retiring so to speak, to tumblr is a way to atleast keep going for some self gratification. Or maybe it's just my glass of red wine talking, haha.

Kevin

I've been learning from and appreciating your contributions for some time. As a former blogger, I say let those who get a thrill out of correcting you and feeling superior do their job...it ultimately helps connect some dots for an otherwise friendly community. In all, I consider your blog one of the best, period. I am honored to have a photo on your most recent Tony Paul post. Will go check out your tumbler next.
